Tsomo man jailed for 25 years for raping 41-year-old woman, who turned down his proposal

The Tsomo Regional Magistrate's Court on Tuesday sentenced a 27-year-old man, Sowabile Masebe, to 25 years behind bars after it found him guilty of raping a 41-year-old woman in 2015.

"The accused met a 41-year-old woman during the evening of 4 July 2015 at Dudumashe Village, in Ngqamakhwe," described police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"He persuaded the victim to fall in love with him. The request was rejected by the 41-year-old woman."

Captain Manatha said that was when he started assaulting the woman and dragged her to his home.

"He locked the victim to his room and raped her.

"The victim was released on the morning of 05 July 2015," he said.

"A case of rape was then opened. Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) traced and arrested the accused."

The Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Trevor Mey, praised the investigating officer of the case for properly investigating the matter.
