Two arrested after five armed men rob Linton Grange butchery

Two alleged armed robbery suspects were behind bars just three hours after a butchery in Linton Grange, Port Elizabeth, was robbed on Sunday afternoon.

"It is alleged that at about 12:30, two males entered the butchery in Sylvia Crescent, asked for meat and then walked out," described police spokesperson, Col Priscilla Naidu.

"They returned with three other males.

"Two produced firearms and held the staff and manager at gunpoint."

Robbery suspects arrested in Zwide

She said that a substantial amount of money was taken and the men fled in a white VW Polo.

"The registration number of the vehicle was immediately circulated and, at about 15:30, PE Flying Squad members spotted the vehicle in Bertram Street in Zwide, Port Elizabeth," Col Naidu said.

"Two suspects, aged 39 and 42 years old, were arrested and some of the stolen cash was found in their possession.

"The vehicle, which belongs to the 39-year-old suspect, was impounded by police."

 She said that the suspects are expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
