Two arrested after King Williams Town police receive tip-off about stock thieves

King Williams Town police followed up the information they received about a vehicle that was transporting suspected stolen goats at Mtyholo Location on Tuesday afternoon.

"They went to the village and saw the vehicle (a white Ford Bantam bakkie) and when the suspects saw the police vehicles, one of them managed to run away," said police spokesperson, Captain Siphokazi Mawisa.

"Police arrested two males, aged 28 and 30 years, and recovered six goats to the value of more than R10 000."

"The vehicle belonge to the father of the other suspect.

"They will appear at Zwelitsha Magistrate's Court on Thursday for Stock Theft."

Fighting stock theft

The Acting Cluster Commander, Colonel Nomonde Mene, thanked the community for sharing valuable information to the police and that led to the recovery of goats and arrest of these suspects.

"With the assistance of the community members, we can fight stock theft in our policing precinct," she added.

The news comes as police revealed that within a week of Stock Theft Operations conducted in the hard hit policing areas around the Eastern Cape province, stock worth over R2 million was recovered and 11 suspects arrested
