Two arrested for possession of stolen firearm in Motherwell

The firearm was reported stolen in Port Alfred in 2018

Port Elizabeth - Two suspects are expected in court on Friday after they were arrested by police in Motherwell, Port Elizabeth, on Wednesday night, at about 21:00, for possession of illegal firearms.

According to police information, members of the SAPS Flying squad followed up on information of an unlicensed firearm being kept in a shop in Ingwe Street, NU1, Motherwell.

"Upon searching the shop, a 38 revolver, with three rounds of ammunition, was found hidden in a clothing basket inside the shop," described police spokesperson, .

"Two male suspects, aged 46 and 31 years old, were arrested for the possession of an unlicenced fire arm and ammunition."

Capt Beetge said that upon further investigation, it was discovered that the firearm was reported stolen in Port Alfred during October 2018.

"Both suspects will appear before the Motherwell Magistrate's Court on Friday."
