Two houses robbed three hours apart in separate incidents in Uitenhage

Police in Uitenhage have appealed to the public for assistance with information that might assist them in solving to house robberies that occurred on Tuesday morning.

"At around 1am, it is alleged that three men armed with firearms forced open a kitchen door of a house in Mimosa Drive, Uitenhage," said police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli.

"The occupants, who were woken by sound of an opening door were held at gunpoint by one of the suspects.

"The other two men ransacked the house and stole a television set, Xbox, five cellphones and a hard drive."

Sergeant Nkohli said that the suspects then locked the victims inside a bedroom before fleeing the scene.

"In a separate incident, Tuesday, at about 4am, it is alleged that five men armed with firearms forced open a door of a house in Katjiepiering Street in Uitenhage," he added.

"A homeowner was held at gunpoint and forced to hand over cash from her wallet. The suspects also stole a television set, a laptop and a cellphone. No people were injured in both incidents."

Police opened house robbery cases for investigation and are also urging anyone with information that could assist with their investigation in any of the two incidents to contact the nearest police station or to share information via Crime Stop 08600 10111.
