The Bhisho High Court this week sentenced 33-year-old  Thulani Kwaza to two life sentences plus 10 years after finding him guilty of a rape and assault incident that occurred in October 2015 at Ndevana Location, outside King Williams Town.

According to the police, his conviction follows after the King Williams Town Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Detectives worked tirelessly in investigating the case and managed to apprehend the suspect.

“The suspect physically and sexually assaulted the victim and her two daughters, aged between four and six years-old,” said police spokesperson, Captain Siphokazi Mawisa.

She added that the suspect was soon arrested and appeared before the Zwelitsha Magistrate Court on 19th October 2015 where the investigating officer successfully argued for a denial of bail and he was remanded in custody.

Mawisa added that Kwaza appeared several times at the Court, before the case was transferred to the Bhisho High Court in June 2016.

“He was found guilty on 10 August 2017 and was sentenced and convicted on 28 August 2017 to eight years of sexual assaulting his girlfriend, two years for assaulting her and life imprisonment for raping her four-year-old daughter and another life imprisonment for raping her six-year-old daughter."

The Commander for King Williams Town Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, Lieutenant Colonel Zitulele Mahlambeni welcomed the sentence and hopes it will serve as a deterrent to perpetrators of crime.

He commended an excellent job done by the Detective Officer that led to the conviction and sentencing of the accused.
