Two men rescued in East London after boat capsized

Two East London men, aged 44 and 41 years old, had a lucky escape when they were rescued after their boat capsized on Thursday.

"The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) East London duty crew dispatched the sea rescue craft, Spirit of Rotary EL II, following reports of a boat capsized in the surf-line at Gonube Beach," described NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon.

"On-duty Buffalo City Municipal lifeguards (one of the lifeguards is also crew at NSRI East London), at Gonube Beach, launched Malibu Rescue Boards and lifeguard rescue swimmers also swam out to assist the two local men and they were recovered onto the Malibu Rescue Boards and brought to shore by the lifeguards and they were not injured.

"Their capsized boat washed into the surf-line where it was recovered and no further assistance was required."
