Two more alleged gangsters arrested for murder and attempted murder

On Wednesday, at about 11:45, members from Mount Road Cluster OCC were patrolling in Gelvandale when they received a ‘tip off’ from a community member of a person walking in Springbok Street in possession of a firearm.

"Immediately responding to the information, members noticed a group of males in the mentioned street," described police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu.

"As they spotted the police, one of the males started running.

"A chase on foot ensued and the suspect was seen tossing a firearm in the yard of a house."

She said that the suspect was arrested by a member from SAPS Gelvandale and the firearm, a .38 special revolver and ammunition was recovered.

"It was later established that the arrested person, aged 25 years, is also a suspect in a murder case, which allegedly took place on 13 June 2017," added Col Naidu.

"It is alleged that at about 13:00 a Dustlife gang member, Keenen Fortuin (28) was gunned down in Beetlestone Road by three suspects."

She said that the suspect will be detained on a case of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as murder.

Attempted Murder Suspect Arrested

In an unrelated case, on Wednesday evening, within two hours after an alleged shooting, the Visible Gang Intervention Team apprehended a 22-year-old suspect for attempted murder. 

"According to police information, at about 15:00 this afternoon, the 28 year old complainant was walking in Bramlin Markman Street in Helenvale when shots were fired at him," said Col Naidu.

"No injuries sustained.

"Within two hours after the incident, the suspect, a gang member was arrested in a shack in Bramlin Markman Street."

He will appear in court on Friday, 14 July 2017 on a charge of attempted murder.
