Two suspects arrested for public violence at Stutterheim protest

Two suspects are expected in court over service delivery protest violence that broke out at Stutterheim on Wednesday morning.

"The protest started this morning at about 04h00 at Mlungisi Township, Stutterheim," said police spokespersonb, Captain Siphokazi Mawisa.

"They closed the entrance road to Mlungisi Township with burning tyres and stones.

"The protest is related to a service delivery issue, the details of which are unknown."

Capt Mawisa said that the SAPS' POPS is on the scene and monitoring the situation.

The suspects will appear at Stutterheim Magistrate Court soon.

Another deadly break out of violence happened this month

About two weeks ago, 16 suspects appeared before the Stutterheim Magistrate's Court following deadly service delivery protests that saw the destruction of public infrastructure.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Eastern Cape has since called for the Amahlathi Local Municipality to be placed under administrationciting the recent violent service delivery protests that happened in Stutterheim.
