Two women in PE court over suspected stolen items and dagga

Two women, aged 20 and 29, are expected in court on Monday after they were busted with suspected stolen property and dagga by Port Elizabeth police at a flat in Fettes Road, North-End.

"It is alleged that on Friday, at approximately 12:30, members from SAPS Mount Road were busy with crime prevention duties in the North End area when they were approached by a community member, who provided them with information about drugs and suspected stolen property," said police spokesperson, Capt Sandra Janse van Rensburg.

"The members followed up on the information and upon searching the flat, the members recovered six digital cameras with lenses, pair of schools shoes video equipment cables and camera bags.

"They also confiscated 500 grams of dagga."

She said that both suspects will appear in the New Law Courts Port Elizabeth on Monday on charges of possession of suspected stolen property and possession of dagga.

"Police are requesting the community to assist them in identifying the recovered goods," Capt Janse van Rensburg said.

"If anyone suspects that these items may belong to them, they must contact D/Capt Eric Mathews 041 394 6731/6000."

Police are also warning the community that it is an offence to buy stolen property and will be charged for receiving such property.

"By buying stolen property, one is encouraging the commission of crime."
