Two-year-old girl drowns in dam as mother fetches water
Police have cautioned residents after a two-year-old girl drowned on Wednesday, at about 16:00, at Komkhulu Locality, Lower Mbhangcolo Village, Willowvale.
"It is alleged that the mother of the toddler had gone to fetch water at the dam. She was found by a community member already floating at the dam as the mother was still busy fetching the water," described police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.
"Community members tried to rescue the toddler, but in vain as she had already passed on. The toddler was identified as Angela Mrhasi.
"A case of drowning is being investigated."
He said that police are warning mothers to be vigilant at all times and leave minor children at home when fetching water from dams and rivers as to avoid such incidents.
