Uitenhage man expected in court for dealing in Schedule 5 drugs

A 26-year-old man is expected in the Uitenhage Magistrate's Court on Friday after he was busted by local police for dealing in prescription drugs.

"On Wednesday, members from the Uitenhage Operational Command Centre, received valuable information and after obtaining a search warrant, they arrested a 26-year-old male suspect for the illegal dealing in schedule five medicine at a residence in Skimmer Street, Rosedale," said police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart.

"Police confiscated 6 693 Stilpane tablets and R6 000 in cash and handed it in as exhibits.  The suspect was arrested and is due to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate’s Court on Friday."  

 

In an unrelated matter, members from the Uitenhage Operational Command Centre followed up on further information at about 22:00 on Wednesday and arrested four suspects in a house in Nhanhanha Street, Kwanobuhle, after an unlicensed firearm with ammunition was found in their possession. 

"The four suspects, who are between the ages of 18 – 20-years-old were detained and will appear on charges ranging from the illegal possession of a firearm to the illegal possession of ammunition in the Uitenhage Magistrate’s Court on Friday," said Captain Swart.

"One Norinco 9mm pistol was seized with ammunition."

The deputy Cluster Commander of Uitenhage and overall commander of the Operational Command Centre, Brigadier Ronald Koll, has applauded the members for their swift action and the arrest of the suspects.

Brig Koll also commended the community for working with the SAPS by providing valuable information that led to the arrest and recovery of the illegal firearm and medicine.
