Uitenhage police arrest over 155 suspects in weekend crime prevention operations

Police officers in the Uitenhage Cluster conducted various anti-crime operations over the past weekend, which yielded good results.

"A total of 156 suspects were arrested on charges ranging from vehicle hijacking, house robbery, murder, attempted murder, possession of drugs, possession of suspected stolen property, burglary, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm and theft," said police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart. 

"Fifteen suspects were arrested for the illegal possession of drugs. 27 traffic related fines were issued, valued at more than R13 500  and two persons were arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of liquor."

She said that the SAPS is encouraging the local community to work with the SAPS in reducing crime and they appeal to the community to provide valuable information that will lead to the arrest of those involved in crime.
