Uitenhage police warn residents against spreading 'false' rumours on social media

Police in the Uitenhage Cluster are warning members of the community not to spread false rumours about possible retaliation attacks.

"A WhatsApp message -  also posted on other social media platforms, claimed such attacks would take place in Kwanobuhle and surrounding towns on Wednesday," said police spokesperson,  Captain Gerda Swart.

"We request the community to remain calm and report for work and learners to attend school.

"We urge members of the community to refrain from circulating unsubstantiated information as this may cause public alarm."

She said that members of the community are reminded to stay vigilant and to report suspicious persons/activities to the nearest police station.

The police did not provide further information about the said messages and what led to them.
