UPDATE: N2 Tsitsikamma toll plaza now open says SANRAL

Update: The South African National Roads Agency SOC Ltd (SANRAL) would like to notify travellers that the N2 and Tsitsikamma toll plaza are now open.

The N2 between Eerste River and Trifolia are still closed. The alternative route is to travel on the R62 and join the N2 at Trifolia. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution.

The South African National Roads Agency SOC Ltd (SANRAL) on Sunday advised motorists and travellers that the N2 Tsitsikamma Toll Plaza is closed due to a raging fire.

Smoke from the fires reached as far off as Port Elizabeth - fanned by strong winds.

It said that the alternative route to Cape Town would be via the R62 Kareedouw, Uniondale (the Langkloof road).

"Motorists will not be able to get to George as the passes from R62 to George are also closed."

On Saturday, SANRAL said that the N2 at Storms River and the Tsitsikamma Toll Plaza were closed due to the same fire.

“Fire has continued to burn on both sides of the N2 and the Petro Port at Storms River had to be evacuated,” said Mbulelo Peterson, SANRAL Southern Region Manager.
