UPDATE: Police monitoring Stutterheim following violence, 11 suspects released

Police on Friday said that they are continuing to monitor the situation in Stutterheim following the violence witnessed on Thursday during a service delivery protest.

"At the moment, its quiet and under control at Mlungisi Township, Stutterheim," said police spokesperson, Captain Siphokazi Mawisa.

"POPS members are patrolling the CBD, Mlungisi Township."

She said that through investigation, 11 of the 17 suspects arrested on Thursday for the violence were released.

A delivery truck was burnt by residents during the protest.

"Six remained in custody and will appear at Stutterheim Magistrate's Court on Monday."

They have been charged with Public Violence and Malicious damage to property.
