Upgraded Mitsubishi Pajero now available

Mitsubishi Motors South Africa has given its flagship Pajero SUV a subtle facelift in preparation for 2015. Despite being on the market since 2006, radical changes have mostly been limited to visual and comfort enhancements as well as the discontinuation of the popular but heavy 3.8-litre V6 petrol engine.

Available once again as either a three-door SWB (Short Wheelbase) or five-door LWB (Long Wheelbase) model, the 2015 Pajero features a redesigned nose with a new front bumper incorporating LED daytime running lights, a new chrome grille, alloy wheels and a sturdier spare wheel cover for LWB.

Inside, the interior boast a new touch screen infotainment system which now displays the image of the standard reverse camera on the centre display. Standard features on all models, amongst others, includes auto-dimming headlights, electric windows all around, automatic air-conditioning, multi-function steering wheel, Bluetooth with voice control, five-way electric seats, cruise control, six speaker Rockford Fosgate radio/CD/MP3 sound system with USB and aux input, six airbags, ABS with EBD, BAS and ASTC (Active Stability and Traction Control).

Model-wise, the previous entry level GLX trim has been discontinued leaving only three models; the now base SWB GLS, LWB GLS and the range topping LWB GLS Exceed.

Under the bonnet, the Pajero remains unchanged with all models being powered by the marque’s 3.2-litre DI-D four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, which produces 140 kW and 441 N.m. A five-speed automatic transmission sends power to all four wheels via Mitsubishi’s now iconic four-mode SuperSelect 4WD (SS4) system, which allows for the switch from 2WD to 4WD at speeds up to 100 km/h.
