Varsity College PE raises funds for the Qhubeka Education Project

The IIE’s Varsity College Port Elizabeth VC Cares committee and students guided by the campus’ Student Relations Manager, Jaci Howell collaborated throughout the year to raise awareness and funds for the Qhubeka Education Project.

This resulted in a grand total of R55 000 which will be used to purchase 18 bicycles for the Qhubeka Education Project.

“I am tremendously proud of our students for their dedication and commitment in helping to make an impact so willingly this year. Achieving our target would not have been possible without their time and effort that was put into helping out with the various fundraising initiatives.

"Their level of voluntarily service, commitment and dedication was truly phenomenal. To see firsthand the kind of passion our students have for making a difference in the community is amazing” says Jaci Howell, The IIE’s Varsity College Port Elizabeth Student Relations Manager.

The IIE’s Varsity College Corporate Social Initiative (CSI) for 2017 is The Qhubeka Education Project which distributes bicycles to students, teachers and school volunteers to improve access to education, reduce travel time and improve educational outcomes.

Some of the contributing fundraising initiatives included, Mr & Miss Varsity College, a raffle, Bingo Evening and a Family Fun Fair.

The IIE’s Higher Certificate in Event Management (HCEM) and The IIE’s Diploma in Public Relations (DPR) students collaborated and hosted the Family Fun Fair as part of their Work Integrated learning (WIL) modules. WIL provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate their learning in an actual and/or stimulated workplace environment.

Sponsors who contributed throughout the year included: Heinz In Style; Elegant Ivy; Woolworths; PE Opera House; Madiba Bay Events; Old Grey Sports Club; Above & Beyond; Whiskey & Honey; Hairpower; Divas Hair Salon; Total Concept; Sophisticated Models; Jenni Gault International Jewellery Design; AVX Consulting Engineers; Algoa FM and SB Agency.

The year has been a fulfilling adventure which needed the support and commitment of many people in order to be a success and The IIE’s Varsity College Port Elizabeth campus would like to thank one and all for their support throughout the year.
