VIDEO: Bay Ultra Marathon a huge success

The Bay Ultra marathon, one of only two ultra-distance races taking place in the Eastern Cape, took place on Saturday in Nelson Mandela Bay with a great turnout of entrants for their 50km, 21.1km and 5km races.

Athletes arrived at Pollok Beach in Summerstrand early on Saturday morning before the sun came up. This year the race was brought forth thanks to the partnership between Amobia Communications and Body Concept Road Warriors.

This was the first year in the Bay Ultra marathon history that a half marathon has been introduced, and by the amount of athletes signed up it was well worth it as many people lined up to run the 21.1km distance.

It was also the first year that a 5km family fun run/walk was included, which was a huge success with the local Port Elizabeth athletes, who lined up early in the morning to take part in the fun.

The winners of the Bay Ultra 50km in the male and female division were Ben Matiso with a time of 2h57m and Ntombesintu Mfunzi with a time of 3h55m.

The winners of the 21.2km in the male and female division were Luthando Hejana with a time of 67m and Ndileka Mvakwendlu with a time of 1h25m.
