South Africa cruised to an eight-wicket victory over Sri Lanka at St. Georges Park, on Saturday, as they successfully chased down a meek target of 182 with a wholesome 94 balls to spare.

The support at St. Georges was ignited after Sri Lanka were taken all out for 181 after 48.3 oversin the first innings, with Imran Tahir (3/26), local PE resident Wayne Parnell (3/48) and Chris Morris (2/29) contributing the most with the ball. For Sri Lanka, Kusal Mendis (62) scored the most runs.

With the loss of only two wickets in their total-chase, only four batsmen took to the crease for the Proteas, with each making more than 30. Openers, Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla made 34 and 57 respectively; and Faf du Plessis and captain AB de Villiers scored an unbeaten 30 and 55 respectively to successfully glide to their target.

South Africa now take a 1-0 lead in the ODI series, with the second match-up against Sri Lanka set to take place in Durban on Wednesday, 1st February.
