VIDEO: Port Elizabeth bathers warned after whale carcass attracts sharks

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality on Friday said that it was trying to get rid a whale carcass that washed up at Wells Estate beach, in Port Elizabeth, and has attracted sharks.

"A big whale has washed off Wells Estate beach and sharks are feeding on it," said Mthubanzi Mniki, Nelson Mandela Bay Spokesperson.

"Whilst the Municipality is trying to get rid of the carcass the beach is temporarily closed to ensure safety of bathers."

A Humpback Whale calf  also beached at Hogan Park, approximately 4km along the beach to the east of the Port of Ngqura, just outside Port Elizabeth, over the past weekend.
