Walk in Centre to assist public at George Municipality
The George Municipality on Thursday officially opened a Walk in Centre to assist members of the public on arrival at the main municipal buildings.
"On arrival at the York Street building the security desk will direct you to the centre located on the ground floor," explained George Municipality spokesperson, Chantel Edwards-Klose.
"You will be greeted by one of our agents who will find out who you have an appointment with and/or query. The agent will confirm that the person you need to see is in the office and after signing in, you will be taken up to the correct office with the aid of a runner. Seating is available should the area be busy with access to bathroom facilities.
"The centre has been opened as a pilot project with three agent desks. The intention is to gather statistics on the foot traffic to the main building and thereafter to make the decision to expand the services."
Every attempt made to deliver better services to George residents
George Municipality Executive Mayor, Melvin Naik, welcomed the initiative from the Corporate Services Directorate noting that every attempt to improve the delivery of services to our citizens is to be applauded.
“We have ensured that our agents are multi-lingual and can assist all citizens. We feel if someone has taken the trouble to travel to the CBD we must make all effort to ensure their visit is successful.
"Naturally for those citizens who cannot travel distances there are seven Area Offices located throughout George where members of the public can be assisted with any municipal enquiry,” added George Municipality Portfolio Councillor for Corporate Services, Jaquilique Von Brandis.
Peter Noble, Client Services Manager confirmed that George Municipality upholds the principles of Batho Pele and that officials are committed to provide high quality of services that are responsive.
“The establishment of this centre is our first step towards this commitment and we welcome any constructive comments from the public who do use the service,” he said.
