Walmer creche gets visit from the Bold & Beautiful star Katherine Lang

Early Birds Daycare Centre in Sakhasonke Village in Port Elizabeth’s Walmer Township got a surprise visit from the Bold & Beautiful star and Women For Tri advisor, Katherine Lang, on Thursday.

Although her focus was on the kids, who didn’t even know, that Katherine Lang is a famous person , local adult fans of the long-running television show, took the opportunity to take photos and interact with her.

Most kids were overwhelmed and cried due to so much attention and cameras following them left right centre.

Katherine said that she was excited to be with the kids.

"I’m really excited to be with the kids and excited to be here for Ironman foundation and Women For Tri and just be a part of this amazing organization and help out," she said.

The Executive Director of the Ironman Foundation, Sarah Hartman, said that Ironman World Championship and Ironman for Kidz is providing R1.4 million to local charities as part of the organisation's legacy projects.

“Early Birds Daycare crèche in Sakhasonke Village in Port Elizabeth’s Walmer Township was fortunate to benefit from the Foundation.

“We are want to restore the cottages of child and Youth Centre and after the race the athletes are going to paint the cottages and also we will build a learn to swim pool for the local kids and also we are buying a new school bus,” Hartman said.

The Principal of the crèche, Zukiswa Cawe, said that they were working at a small back room without resources.

“I am over the moon because everything the kids need is here so I am very happy that now we will be able to give the children an education they deserve," she told RNEWS. 

According to the Cawe, the Ironman Foundation donated tables and chairs, books, mattresses and lots of creativity materials for the kids.
