Warm Hearts – Mayor’s Winter Campaign

The Executive Mayor of George, Aldm Charles Standers, last week launched the Warm Hearts Mayor’s Winter Campaign at the Garden Route Mall.

“As a caring City, the wellbeing of the Citizens of George is of great concern to me and for this reason I decided to launch the Campaign.

“The cold and wet winter months are ahead in George and we are calling on all of our citizens and visitors to support this worthy initiative by donating any new or unused items of clothing or shoes or even housewares, food items, dog or cat food.

“Our Community Development Department in collaboration with their Social Partners will ensure the redistribution of goods to Communities that need it most. “

Donation crates will be available at the Garden Route Mall and Eden Meander Lifestyle Cenrefrom 27 April until 18 July 2016 and a donation crate will also be available at the Main George Municipality Building until the end of August 2016.

We would like to thank our Partners in this initiative: George Business Chamber, Garden Route Mall , Eden Meander Lifestyle Centre, Garden Route SPCA  and our Media Partners: George Herald and Eden FM .

“Thank you to Houttek Luventes for sponsoring the use of the donation crates and Intembeko Group for ensuring installation.  We are proud of our established Partnerships and look forward to our future projects with you,” said Ald. Standers.

Andrea van Rensburg said the Garden Route Mall is proud to be part of this worthy initiative. “We continually strive to identify opportunities to take hands with the Municipality, corporate partners and the community so together we can make a real difference in the lives of the less fortunate. The Garden Route Mall has already donated R40,000 towards other charity projects this year and our commitment to serve the community will continue.”

Dr. Willie Cilliers of  the George Business Chamber supports this initiative by the Executive Mayor. “We ask the community to have a heart this winter towards people and animals during the cold winter months which is upon us. Come let us stand together and give hope to the hopeless,” he said.

"Eden FM supports the George Mayor's Winter Campaign this year because we are aware of the extent of dire conditions which a lot of people will face during the very long and cold winter ahead. By all of us making a small contribution we can make a huge difference in the lives of the poor and needy, and especially in the lives of innocent children. We trust that as true South Africans and citizens of George we will all open up our hearts , hands and pockets and share a bit of warmth this coming winter. One good deed can make the difference of a lifetime,” said Mr Morné  Pietersen,Station Manager:Eden FM

Maggie Avery, Eden Meander Centre Manager, said: “The measure of who we are, is what we do, with what we have!  A small gift can make a meaningful change.  At Eden Meander Lifestyle Centre it’s not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving.  Please help us in Partnership with the George Municipality, to make a difference by donating anything that can help the needy.   No person deserves to sleep cold at night, or go hungry during the day. We often take the small things in life for granted.”

No person deserves to sleep cold at night, or go hungry during the day.  We often take the small things in life for granted.  Give with an open heart, share the love this winter -  to someone, you could change their world,” said Jovan Heyns from the Intembeko Group.

“The Garden Route SPCA’s purpose is to help animals and in this process uplift the community. Without the help of the public we would not be able to achieve anything,  we would not be able to do this work. We are very grateful to the Mayor for this initiative.,” Yvette Longmore of SPCA said.  “We currently maintain 115 kennels on our premises.  Now that it’s winter again, we need blankets to keep all these animals warm.  A lot of the old blankets are torn and we struggle to dry blankets fast enough.  If the public could donate blankets, it would help a lot.  As always, we also need food and volunteers who are willing to get involved with fundraising projects.  Feel free to come and visit us, or have a look at our website at www.grspca.co.za.”

We call on all our citizens in George as well as our visitors to support this worthy initiative to ensure that we are making a difference in the lives of those persons in our City that need it the most.
