Water shut down in parts of the Nelson Mandela Bay this weekend

Water supply disruption is so that Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality can repair burst pipe

Port Elizabeth - The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality on Friday said that it recently had a burst pipe at the Coegakop potable water reservoir, which resulted in a supply disruption to certain parts of the IDZ and nearby areas of Motherwell, Port Elizabeth.

"A temporary repair was executed to reinstate supply expeditiously and protect Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality's infrastructure," described Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Communications and Media Management Officer, Mthubanzi Mniki.

"Areas which are expected to be without water include Motherwell NU 29 and Coega IDZ zones 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7."

Mniki said that the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is ready to do the permanent repair and understand the inconvenience of an unexpected water interruption to the residents and the IDZ.

"We apologize for this inconvenience," he explained.

"The shut down is for Sunday the 12th of May 2019. This should be sufficient time for all parties to prepare.

"Teams will start preparation work on Saturday the 11th ,however, supply will be shut at 00:00 that midnight and teams will start with repairs immediately."

Mniki said that it is envisaged that supply will be restoredby Sunday late afternoon.

"It must be kept in mind that unforeseen complications could extend duration of repair."
