Weather Update: It's going to be a cold, wet and windy weekend

Windy and cold weather is expected to move in along the southern coastal areas of the Eastern Cape overnight, as a cold front moves in from the south, south west, the Port Elizabeth office of the South African Weather Service said on Wednesday.

"Rain showers can be anticipated to start during the early hours of Thursday morning and isolated showers can be expected throughout the day until 18h00. Most of the rain will fall between 03h00 and 06h00 the morning," said Garth Sampson, Client Liaison Officer for the Eastern Cape at the South African Weather Service.

"Winds are expected to be very strong reaching gales force off-shore at times but moderating in the afternoon."

He said that on Friday, the windy cold weather spreads to the coastal areas of the Wild coast and South Eastern coastline of Eastern Cape as another cold front brushes along the coastal areas.

"Isolated rain showers are anticipated along the south and south east coast of the Eastern Cape spreading to the Wild coast by the afternoon," Sampson added.

"Some light snow falls are anticipated along the southern coastal mountains.

"Winds are once again expected to be very strong and the coastal swell increases to round 8m."

On Saturday, conditions clear over the eastern cape and sunny warmer weather can be expected during the day, but colder Windy conditions are expected once again overnight.

Sampson said that on Sunday, Windy and cold conditions are expected over the Eastern Cape with strong SW to Southerly winds.

"Some light rain and drizzle patches can also be expected in places in the morning," he added.
