Weekend behind bars for Shaun Blunden

Port Elizabeth businessman and owner of Blunden Coach Tours, Shaun Blunden, will spend the weekend at St Albans prison after the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court on Thursday again postponed his bail application to the 30th of June.

The bail hearing had been postoned to Thursday on Wednesday by Presiding officer, Annalien Larson.

During Blunden's bail application, the State said that it was not ready to proceed with the bail hearing.

Previously the State also said that the status of Blunden's passport and the firearm still needed to be ascertained.

State prosecutor, Andre Kirchner, said that an affidavit also still needs to be prepared

Blunden stands accused of shooting his sister's ex-husband on Saturday. The shooting reportedly followed an altercation at his mother’s home on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Blunden's attorney, Paul Roelofse, was under the instruction to oppose the postponement of bail from his client.

He told the court that a person has the right to apply for bail at his first appearance.

The State reportedly intends to argue that the shooting incident is a Scehdule 5 offence. Blunden is now facing two charges of attempted murder and additional charges of intimidation and malicious damage to property.

A domestic dispute between Blunden and his niece, Kaylin Williams, turned violent when her father, and Blunden's former brother-in-law, Deon Williams, 51, tried to intervene resulting in the latter being admitted to the ICU with a gunshot wound in the stomach.

He made a brief apperance at the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Blunden, who was being held in custody at the Humewood police holding cells has now been transferred to St Albans prison.
