Weekend cold front to bring low temperatures but not enough rain

The South African Weather Service' Port Elizabeth office on Friday said that this weekend's cold front, and an associated upper air trough, will  start pass through the Eastern Cape on Sunday morning from the west, reaching the eastern regions by the afternoon.

"This will result in cold to very cold and wet conditions over the Province," said Garth Sampson, Client Liaison Officer for the Eastern Cape at the South African Weather Service.

"Snowfalls are expected over the high lying areas of the province with disruptive snowfalls expected over the Sneeuberg and Winterberg.

"Passes such as the Lootsberg Pass and Penhoek Pass could be affected."

Sampson said that the wet weather will start clearing from the west on Monday.

"However, due to the absence of cloud and maximum outgoing radiation, conditions will remain cold to very cold, especially over the high lying areas," he added.

"There is a 30% chance over the northern regions, with a 60% chance of rain in the southern regions.

"As regards rainfall over the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality's catchment areas, not more than 10 mm is expected."
