Whittlesea teen in court for raping 15-year-old coming from tavern

Whittlesea - Whittlesea police arrested a 19-year-old man for alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl following a day at the tavern.

"It is alleged that the victim had gone to the tavern with her friends on Wednesday, 25 December, at Nqobokeni Village, Whittlesea, said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"She decided to go back home on Thursday, 26 December, at about 03h00.

"The suspect pretended to be accompanying her back home."

Capt Manatha said that on the way, the suspect allegedly raped the victim and later let her go home.

"She later told her mother about the alleged rape. Police acted swiftly as they traced and arrested the suspect."

The suspect is due to appear before the Whittlesea Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a rape charge.

Queenstown SAPS Cluster Commander, Major General Funeka Siganga, praised the Whittlesea Police for swift reaction in apprehending the suspect.

She appealed to the parents not to allow their under age children to go to the tarvens as they become soft targets of crime.
