Willowvale duo expected in court over illegal firearms and ammo

Willowvale - Two men, aged 30 and 37 years, are expected in court on Monday after they were arrested by Willowvale police for possession of unlicensed firearms namely a pistol with 25 rounds of ammunition and an automatic rifle with 40 rounds of ammunition.

"Both suspects were stopped by the Willowvale police during their patrol along Willowvale Main Street, Willowvale, on Saturday, at about 00h58," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"The suspects could not produce the licenses of fire arms and ammunition.

"The firearms will also be sent for ballistic tests to establish if they were not used in the commission of crime around Willowvale and the surrounding areas."

Acting Butterworth Cluster Commander, Colonel Ncedo Ngwendze, congratulated Willowvale police for being alert as crime such as armed robberies and murders have been prevented through the arrests of the suspects and recovery of the unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

"The suspects are due to appear before the Willowvale Magistrate’s Court on Monday."
