Willowvale man accused of fatally stabbing wife remanded in custody

A 43-year-old Willowvale man, Mthetheleli Dangazele, accused of fatally stabbing his wife during a domestic argument briefly appeared before the Willowvale Magistrate's Court on Tuesday on a murder charge.

"He was not asked to plead and his case was remanded to Wednesday next week," said police spokesperson, Capt Jackson Manatha.

"The accused remains in custody."

He added that the deceased was identified as 33-year-old Phelisa Ndabambi. 

"It is alleged that the couple had a misunderstanding at their home on Sunday, at about 17:00, at Jojweni Locality, Nkelekethe Village, Willowvale," said Capt Manatha.

"The suspect drew his knife and stabbed the wife on her upper body.

"When he discovered that the victim was bleeding profusely, he decided to take the wife to the Dutywa Health Centre."

Capt Manatha said that the wife was confirmed dead on arrival.

"The motive behind the gruesome murder is not clear at this point in time."

Husband arrested by Willowvale police for killing his wife

He said that police were informed that the victim was murdered by her husband.

"Police acted swiftly and arrested the suspect."

Acting Butterworth SAPS Cluster Commander, Colonel Ncedo Ngwendze, condemned the cold blooded murder of the victim especially by the person who was supposed to protect her.
