Willowvale man arrested after fatally shooting brother in a case of mistaken identity

A man had just arrived at his home in Willowvale, when he heard noises coming from where he had parked. He drew his firearm and fired at the person he saw only later to discover, he had killed his brother.

Willowvale police arrested a 45-year-old man for alleged murder of his younger brother, aged 40, over the weekend.

"It is alleged that the suspect was just arriving at his home, at Mfula Locality, Mndundu Village, Willowvale, on Sunday, at about 01:30 when the incident happened," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"The suspect heard some noise outside the house and saw a person between the cars. He drew his licensed firearm and shot at the person.

"The man who was between the cars was hit on his upper body and passed away at the scene."

He said that the suspect went to check the person and discovered that it was his younger brother.

Willowvale man expected in court for shooting dead brother

"The murder was reported to the police and the suspect was arrested. The fire arm was also recovered from the suspect," Capt Manatha said.

"The suspect is due to appear before the Willowvale Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, on a murder charge."

The identity of the deceased is still being withheld as some of his relatives are still being informed of the murder.
