Willowvale man expected in court for illegal firearm possession

A 22-year-old man is expected in court on Monday after he was arrested by Willowvale police for possession of unlicensed firearm over the weekend.

"The suspect was arrested on Sunday, at about 03:00, at Nkxankxashe Village, Willowvale," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"The police were on patrol when they came across three men.  The three were searched and the suspect was found in possession of a pistol. The firearm had no magazine and ammunition."

Captain Manatha said that the suspect did not produce the license for the firearm.

"He was then arrested and charged for possession of unlicensed firearm. The firearm will be sent for ballistic test to establish if it was not used in the commission of crime," he added.

The suspect is due to appear before the Willowvale Magistrate's Court on Monday.
