Willowvale man gets 18-year jail sentence for raping teen in 2013

The Willowvale Regional Magistrate's Court on Tuesday convicted and sentenced 26-year-old Siphe Malgas to undergo 18 years imprisonment for the rape of a 14-year-old girl in 2013.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, it is alleged that the victim was coming from the home of her friend on 24 November 2013, at about 21:20, at Mndundu Village, Willowvale.

"She noticed that she was being followed by the accused. The latter caught up with the victim and dragged her to a certain homestead where the victim was raped by the accused," he described.

"Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) traced and arrested the accused."

Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Trevor Mey, welcomed the sentence and applauded the Butterworth FCS Unit for their excellent investigation that led to the stiff sentence handed to the accused.
