Willowvale man gets 20-year jail term for raping cousin sister

The Willowvale Regional Magistrate's Court on Tuesday sentenced a 24-year-old man to undergo 20 years imprisonment for raping his 19-year-old cousin sister.

"It is alleged that the accused requested the victim to escort him to his home on the 9 February 2017, at about 23:00, at Phezulu Locality, Nqadu Village, Willowvale," described Captain Jackson Manatha.

"The victim agreed and they went to the homestead of the accused.

"On the way to the home of the accused, the latter drew his knife and forced the victim to an unused flat where he raped her."

The case of rape was reported to Willowvale Police, who transferred it Butterworth FCS Unit.

"The accused was later arrested and a charge of rape was laid against him. The accused cannot be identified as he is related to the victim. The fathers of both victim and accused are blood brothers."

Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Trevor Mey, was shocked as the accused was the person, who was supposed to protect his cousin sister.

He also praised the investigating officer for make sure that he collected all the evidence that led to the stiff sentence of the accused.
