Willowvale man jailed for life raping 11-year-old girl

The Willowvale Regional Magistrate's Court convicted and sentenced a 31-year-old man, Mthuthuzeli Maya, to undergo life imprisonment for raping an 11-year-old girl last year.

"The accused was sentenced on Wednesday at Willowvale Regional Magistrate's Court," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"It is alleged that the victim went to the homestead of the accused on 26 June 2017 to fetch a netball ball at Maya Locality, Nqadu Village, Willowvale."

He said that Maya allowed the victim to come inside his house.

"He then closed the door and raped her. He released the victim on the following day."

'Sentence will send strong message to other would-be rapists'

Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu, has welcomed the life sentence handed to the accused person.

He is hoping that the sentence is sending a strong message that all those, who abuse women and children will be dealt by the law.
