Winner of R87 million Powerball jackpot still to come forward

A lotto player, who has won a whopping R87 million in the national lottery, is apparently still to claim it - and speculation is that the person probably lost the ticket or worse, they are not even aware of their sudden windfall.

The unidentified individual, if they can came along and claim their winnings, will go home with the third biggest lottery purse in recent South African history.

In an apparent stroke of luck, the winner of Friday’s Powerball bought their winning ticket at 7pm - shortly before the draw at a filling station in Mokopane, Limpopo.

A man from Bloemfontein won South Africa's biggest ever lottery payout - R100 million. The lucky man, reportedly almost threw his ticket twice after a scanner failed to read it. He later decided to follow the machine's advice that he goes to a nearby Lotto office after a third scan.

Ithuba will reveal more details on Tuesday.

According to Ithuba, the PowerBall and PowerBall Plus draws have together created 22 millionaires, since June last year when Ithuba took over as the third national lottery operator. Powerball and Powerball Plus draws get broadcast live on e.tv at 9pm on Tuesday and Friday evenings while ticket sales close 30 minutes before each draw.
