Woodridge College win five out of five in cricket derbies week-ending 25th February

Woodridge College, throughout the duration of last week played two T20 encounters and four 50-over derby matches respectively with the Thornhill side winning all five contests.

In their CSA T20 match-up, Woodridge played the free-coasting Pearson High School, who had their tails in the air after beating Grey High by 25 runs the previous week. Pearson took to the crease first and were picked off for a gettable 97 all out.

In response, Woodridge made relative heavy weather with the loss of frequent wickets in their chase, but reaching their target with 101/9 – winning by a narrow one wicket.

Next up, Woodridge met St. Georges College from Harare in Zimbabwe and in a more higher-scoring affair, there saw another close showdown. Woodridge this time batted first and projected 152/7 in their 20 lot of overs, with St. Georges falling just short on 148/6 – handing Woodridge the four-run victory.

In their first 50-over fixture, Woodridge met Despatch and set a total of 253/9 after batting first. With rain slightly upsetting play, Despatch walked off on 112/9 – with the Duckward/Lewis method measuring a 112-run victory for Woodridge.

Then playing two Johannesburg-based schools, Woodridge faced Helpmekaar and Clifton. The former played below par in their target chase to Woodridge’s total of 210/5 – with Helpmekaar falling short on 95 all out. Woodridge won by 115 runs.

Clifton offered a slightly more competitive match-up in a considerably low-scoring affair, as Woodridge again were objectified to defend their total of 167/7. Scoring a total century of runs on 100 all out, Woodridge then won by excess of 67 runs.
