World Youth Skills Day

JULY 15, 2016
World Youth Skills Day

The youth of today have many issues when it comes to transferring from school to the workplace. They may not have the funds to continue their studies, or the skill set to get into the field that they are passionate about.

Today is World Youth Skills Day, and is one of the United Nations International Days of observance. It aims to create more awareness and a discussion on training and the development of skills for the youth of today, in hopes of creating a better opportunity for them when it comes to employment.

Young people are almost three times more likely to be unemployed than adults, and for those who have gotten into the working world, they are placed in very low paying jobs with a huge workload.

This is why the youth of today need training and study opportunities in order to progress into a better position to earn more money. Skills are important for youth to achieve economic growth as well as personal success. Inspiring, educating, and developing youth is an integral part of this.

According to www.un.org, the United Nations is observing World Youth Skills Day, which takes place on the 15th of July every year, with a special event, and the theme for this year is “Skills Development to Improve Youth Employment.”

The website continued, saying, “Understanding what works to support young people in today’s and tomorrow’s labour market through training and skills development will be key to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda, and will be at the centre of this high-level event.”
