Your Christmas weekend will start with some rains and lots of wind

Over the Port Elizabeth area, Christmas weekend will start off with a bit of rain and lots of wind on Christmas eve, the Port Elizabeth office of the South African Weather Services said on Thursday.

"This will clear and Christmas Day will be fine," described Garth Sampson, SA Weather Services Client Liaison Officer for the Eastern Cape. 

"Monday and Tuesday will be quite warm with temperatures in the mid to high 20’s."

Windy, cloudy and cool to warm, with showers along the south and south east coasts and adjacent interior, due to the passing of a cold front. Temps low to mid 20’s.

25 December 2016

Fine and warm with afternoon thundershowers in the northern and eastern interior of the Eastern Cape. Temps mid to high 20’s.

26 December 2016

Cloudy and warm with on and off showers and thundershowers over most on the province. Temps mid-20s. Significant rain in the former Transkei region.

Meanwhile on its website, the South African Weather Services on Thursday morning said that damaging winds, extreme heat, high discomfort levels, severe thunderstorm and veld fire conditions that are expected in parts of the Eastern Cape going into the weekend. 

Severe thunderstorms are expected east of the Mbashe Local Municipality while damaging winds are expected over the interior on Friday and along the coast on Saturday.

Veld fire conditions are expected in the northern interior today and Graaf Reinet area on Friday while extreme heat is expected in places in the western and central interior of the Eastern Cape.

The SA Weather sevices said that high discomfort values are also expected along the east coast and adjacent interior of the Eastern Cape.
