Ziggy’s Rock & Reggae Bar, the perfect relaxed setting

Ever since moving to Port Elizabeth, I made it my mission to find and sample all the different restaurants the city has on offer. Not so long ago, I discovered Ziggy’s Rock & Reggae Bar, a restaurant, which has since become one of my regular go-to spots, whenever I need a delicious meal, good service and a relaxed yet vibey setting.

Situated at Pine Lodge in Marine Drive, Summerstrand, Ziggy’s is so different to the other local eateries. Hidden in the lush vegetation of the Cape Recife Nature Reserve with views of the Indian Ocean, it is the perfect setting for lunch or dinner.

On my most recent visit, I took my mom out for a late lunch, as she was keen to see the place that I had spoken about each time the topic of eating out came up.

Since it was on one of those chilly and windy Port Elizabeth afternoons, we ended up sitting inside where we still enjoyed great views of the tossing ocean. Our friendly waiter brought our menus and returned shortly afterwards with two cocktail menus, as he could see we were there to unwind and catch-up.

We took some time to catch up on developments in our lives before ordering our food - all the while, swaying to the classic Rock and Reggae music that played in the restaurant, which gave it that perfect island vibe that it is famous for.

After finishing our cocktails, we had another look at their menu. Ziggy’s specialises in tapas, seafood and grills, but our decision was easy – we chose their Nachos to share, and it was more than enough for the both of us. Their Double Portion Nachos are served with half-ground beef and half-sliced chicken, sliced jalapenos, guacamole and sour cream.

It was delicious, with that perfect Mexican bite! We both enjoyed every mouthful as we laughed every now and again at each other’s “jalapeno faces”.

My mom said at the end of our meal, “If I ever feel the need for a holiday, I’ll just spend a day at Ziggy’s.” So I have decided to treat her to another meal there for Mother’s Day! I can’t wait.
