Zwide teen arrested for unlicenced firearm
Port Elizabeth police arrested a 19-year-old male in Zwide for the illegal possession of an unlicenced and stolen firearm on Wednesday.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge, the suspect was arrested just after midnight.
“This followed after Motherwell Cluster Operational Command Centre (OCC) members spotted and searched a suspicious group of young men standing in Hlawuli Street, Zwide, at 00:05.
“One of the males (19 years old) was found with an unlicenced firearm - a 7.65mm pistol, in his possession,” Captain Beetge said.
He added that the police later discovered that the firearm was reported stolen in Kwazakele in July 2018.
The suspect will appear before the New Brighton Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
