A proud record will remain in battle on Thursday when Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff cross rackets in one of the semi-finals of the Australian Open.

Sabalenka last lost a match on the Rod Laver course in 2021, while Gauff is still undefeated in 2024.

Moreover, the upcoming battle is also a repeat of last year’s US Open final when Gauff beat her Belarusian opponent.

According to Sabalenka, the defending champion in Melbourne, she is excited to play Gauff again.

“After the American Open, I was almost persuaded to show her a thing or two on the court. It’s always a tough battle to play against Coco and I can’t wait for the semi-final,” said the world’s second best player.

Sabalenka beat Barbora Krejcikova 6-2 and 6-3 to qualify for the showdown, while Gauff had to work a little harder to finish with Marta Kostyuk.

The final score was 7-6, 6-7 and 6-2 in the American’s favor.

In the men’s section, a mouth-watering encounter between Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner awaits on Friday.

The young Italian is one of the few players who knows how it feels to deal with the Serbian star: He beat Djokovic 6-2, 2-6 and 7-5 in a recent Davis Cup showdown.
