Australia clinched the T20 series against the Protea women 2-1 after Beth Mooney delivered a decisive performance in Hobart.

The South Africans made history on Sunday when they beat the Aussies by six wickets in Canberra. However, they could not build on that performance today and they went down to the bottom by five wickets.

Mooney excelled with her magnificent innings of 82 runs, while she was well supported by Ashleigh Gardner.

However, it was still an action-packed match – the Aussies were only able to score the winning runs in the final over of the showdown.

Marizanne Kapp earlier underlined her value to the Protea group. The all-rounder, playing in her 100th international T20 match, smashed 75 quick runs off just 48 deliveries.

Not only was it her best T20 effort, but South Africa’s final score of 162/7 was the team’s best batting effort against the Aussies.

“We would have loved to pull the wagon through the ford. We batted well and a player like Kappie was simply excellent – at times it looked like she was batting on a tarmac,” said Laura Wolvaardt, Protea captain.

The first ODI will be decided in Adelaide on Sunday.
