Australia is the Test cricket champion team!

With the Ashes Series around the corner, Pat Cummins and co showed that Australia can definitely win games in England.

The Aussies overwhelmed India by 209 runs in the final of the World Test Championship to give their confidence a nice boost.

India had to score an improbable 444 runs for victory at the Oval and although Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane looked good in front of the wickets, Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland had other plans.

Boland – of the “build the man a statue” fame – got rid of Kohli and the dangerous Ravindra Jadeja within a few deliveries and after that the writing was on the wall for the Indians.

Nathan Lyon foiled any resistance plans with three quick wickets and Cummins was able to hold up the silverware.

The Aussie captain later paid tribute to Travis Head and Steve Smith after their magnificent 285-run partnership pulled the chestnuts out of the fire for his side.

“Travis is playing brilliant cricket these days and he is putting the bowlers under pressure with his aggressive batting. Yes, we weren’t always at our best, but we played well when it mattered.”

The first match between Australia and England starts on Friday at Edgbaston.
