Bail for three from explosives unit

Bail was granted to three police officers attached to the explosives unit after they were arrested on Thursday on charges of theft and defeating the law.

Members of the Hawks arrested the three in connection with an incident in April this year at a petrol station in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria. The three were at a scene where an explosion took place. However, they were later seen on CCTV footage stuffing notes and coins into a bag at the petrol station.

“One of the three was seen taking the bag to the government vehicle before they left the scene,” says col. Katlego Mogale, spokesperson for the Falcons.

“The investigation showed that the money in the bag was never submitted as evidence.”

The three, a captain, a warrant officer and a sergeant, were released on bail of R3 000.

They must appear again in the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court in August.
