Blitzbokke want to play relentless rugby again

The time for sweet talk is officially a thing of the past. The Blitzbokke have to put the action to the word in Spain and win.

This is Philip Snyman’s message in a nutshell in the run-up to the Madrid final tournament.

“It’s actually quite simple: To become the final tournament champion, you have to win all your matches. Then, to book our Olympic plane tickets, we also need to win all our games next month in Monaco. We just have to play with the right mindset now,” said the Blitzbokke’s temporary head coach.

The South Africans fared better in the Singapore and Hong Kong tournaments, only to find themselves at the bottom again in the play-offs.

“We need to play relentless rugby again which will see us win knockout games. It helps a lot that you have the ability to beat any team, only to lose in the playoffs.”

The Blitzbokke will initially face Ireland, New Zealand and Fiji in Madrid; teams that have already qualified for the Olympic Games in Madrid.

“A good performance in Madrid will lay the foundation for our qualification dreams in Monaco. It is therefore very important that we serve up good rugby this weekend. We want to play winning rugby again.”

The Olympic qualifying tournament will be decided June 21-23 in Monaco.
