The body of a man was found in the Knysna lagoon on Thursday after he went missing the previous day when his canoe overturned.
Jerome Simonis, Knysna station commander of the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), said the body of the man, believed to be in his early 20s, was found after an extensive search by various actors.
The NSRI was called to the scene on Wednesday afternoon after the canoeist’s friend who was fishing with him tried in vain to save him and ended up in trouble himself. He was rescued by the NSRI and is recovering in a hospital.
The NSRI praised the friend for his quick response and efforts to try to save his friend and expressed his condolences to the deceased’s family and friends.
