Botterill pushes things into the red

Guy Botterill and Brett Cummings were the fastest among the Toyota Gazoo Racing participants in the ninth stage of the Dakar off-road rally in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

The two South Africans finished the stage in fifth place, ten minutes behind Sebastien Loeb and Fabian Lurquin.

“Yes, we had a good run and Brett kept us on track excellently. We were driving on flat rocks and it was very difficult to follow the road,” said Botterill.

“Still, we tried to push things a bit into the red and I think we maintained a good speed. The vehicle was excellent and we are very satisfied.”

Lucas Moraes and Armand Monleon finished the stage in seventh place, but they occupy third place on the overall time ladder.

According to Moraes, at one stage they lost their way.

“We lost about eight minutes to get back on track; it was almost a complicated story for you. However, we have no reason to complain: We are in third place overall and the vehicle is still in one piece.”

Giniel de Villiers and Brett Cummings had to settle for 23rd place in the stage.
