Pres. Cyril Ramaphosa confirmed on Sunday that next month’s Brics summit, to which Vladimir Putin has been invited, will go ahead “in person”, despite a warrant for the Russian leader’s arrest.
“The Brics summit continues and we are finalizing our discussions on the format,” he told reporters on the sidelines of an ANC meeting. He emphasized that the summit will take place in person.
Putin is wanted by the Criminal Court over accusations that Russia illegally deported children from Ukraine.
South Africa is a member of the Criminal Court, with strong trade and economic ties with the USA and Europe and the country is expected to arrest the Russian leader if he were to arrive in the country.
RNews reported earlier that the DA has already started legal proceedings to enforce the Russian’s arrest here.
